Settlers Offer Bribes to South Hebron Residents

7 March 2007

After the home demolitions in Um Al-Kher on February 15, the head of the nearby settlement Carmiel paid a visit to the residents in the midst of the rubble that once was their homes. He offered to pay the residents a small amount of money so that they would leave the land ‘voluntarily’. The residents of Um Al-Kher already lost hundreds of dunums of land to these settlers when they built the settlement in 1983. Needless to say, the residents were not given compensation for that land.
The residents of Um Al-Kher strongly rejected the ‘offer’, stating that nothing–the settlers, the army or bulldozers–would drive them from their land.

UPDATE: The rebuilding of homes in Qawawis and im-Neizil has begun! This friday and saturday internationals and Israelis will join the residents as they complete the construction of their homes that were destroyed by the Israeli army on February 15, 2007.
