Demolition in Halhul Leaves 10 People Homeless

21 March 2007

Today at 7am soldiers demolished a two story home in the village of Halhul. Ten people were living there – a mother and father and their 8 children. The house was owned by Ahmad Hasoona Abu Yousef and was built five years ago. Many people from the village attempted to resist the demolition, and soldiers responded with extreme violence. Five people were shot, one of them in the head with a rubber bullet.

After the demolition was complete, the soldiers told the people that they are going to destroy two more homes in Halhul, and gave Said Abu Yousef and Sadi Al Wawi , the owners of the targeted homes, notice papers to this effect. The Israeli government says that the reason for these demolitions is that the homes are too close to a planned settler road.
