Apartheid Wall, Direct Action, Hebron District »

27 Jul 2007

Yesterday, Palestinian, international and Israeli activists, including people from PSP and Anarchists Against the Wall, cut a section out of the Annexation Fence near the village of Surif in the Hebron District.

When completed in this area, the Annexation Fence will cut the nearby Palestinian village Al-Jab’a off from Surif and the rest of the West Bank, leaving it in a ‘no man’s land’ between the Annexation Fence and the ‘Green Line’, and surrounded by settlements.

Activists, wearing reflective vests so that the IOF would have no excuse to believe we were threatening, approached the fence and sought to do as much … Continue reading

This morning Israeli Occupation forces invaded the village of Zawata, near Nablus. Israeli tanks and jeeps were used to close the street and residents were forced to stay in their homes for several hours as Israeli forces demolished the home of the Anatur family. Residents called an ambulance, fearing the soldiers would use violence against residents, but the ambulance was prevented from reaching the area. After the demolition, Israeli forces disguised as Palestinians, arrested Abu Jihad Anatur, 21, who was a relative of the family whose home was demolished.

From IMEMC

The owner of the house, Mohammed Hussain, said that soldiers surrounded his home, which is still under construction, forcing everyone away from the house. Army bulldozers then leveled it to the ground. Hussain added that the army gave him no warning of the demolition.

The house in question is located near an illegal Israeli settlement outpost that was built on land stolen from Palestinians from Al-Asakra village.

The Israeli army, as always, stated that the house was built without the necessary permits. Such permits have never been granted by the Israeli state to Palestinians since Israeli occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967. Mr. Hussain stated that this demolition is aimed at forcing him out of his land, so … Continue reading

The Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions has begun their annual summer camp to rebuild a home in the village of Anata, near Jerusalem. At approximately 11am on July 17, the volunteers got notice that another home in Anata was going to be demolished. As International and Israeli volunteers were working with Palestinians in the village to prepare the home’s new roof, Israeli Army jeeps along with police accompanied a bulldozer to the home next to the ICAHD project. The small home was for a family of 9, who were away at the time. The bulldozer quickly demolished the home as the volunteers were forced to watch, fearful to draw attention to the home they were rebuilding, … Continue reading

PSP was honored to be invited to the commemoration of the newly rebuilt home of the Salem family in Al-Walaja. Activists from Holy Land Trust, Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions and others joined the Salem family to rebuild their home for the 3rd time in two years.
Al-Walaja is a village of less than 1,000 refugees near Betlehem. The residents were first displaced in 1948 when half of their village was taken over by Israel. Over the years they have been in constant danger of further displacement, especially in 1967 when another part of their village was annexed as part of ‘East Jerusalem’ … Continue reading

Today, July 9th, 15 hummers from the Israeli Occupation Forces entered Betlehem and occupied the home of Mohammed Khalil Atalah, 40, on Asaf street. Tanks were also brought in and closed the street. They shot live ammunition in the air and threw sound grenades in the streets in an act of intimidation of the residents of the area, including small children. While some soldiers were ransacking the home, including using police dogs, other soldiers beat passersby. Some soldiers were undercover, dressed as Palestinians. After searching the home for approximately 4 hours, Mr. Atalah was arrested.

On Wednesday, July 4 at 1 pm soldiers entered Beit Ommar with two jeeps. They stopped at a road near the PSP house and ordered a farmer, Nassir Ala’ame, to wait for one hour before working his land. With a map in hand, the soldier asked Nassir if he could tell him more information about a certain area called Wadi al Arab in Beit Ommar. After the hour, he was informed that he could not work his land at all that day.

A few days later the soldiers came again and detained the student Ahmad Moussa Awad for one hour to interrogate him for more information about the area. … Continue reading

7 Jul 2007

On Saturday July 7, about 200 Israeli, international, and Palestinian people gathered in the Southern Hebron Hills to participate in an action against the eviction of the residents of Susiya. The day of solidarity was organized by Combatants for Peace and Ta’ayush. The land-thirsty settlement, which also stole the name Susiya, won a case in court on June 6 which legally allows the eviction of the area’s legal land owners. Because their land is considered “area C”, the Israeli state declared that the Palestinians are illegally squatting on the land they have lived on for centuries. One reason for this is because the Palestinians built their homes without … Continue reading

On Friday July 6 about one hundred protesters gathered at Um Salamuna to participate in the ongoing resistance against the Wall, including dozens of internationals and Israelis. After a prayer on amidst the trees, demonstrators marched to the path of the Annexation barrier, lead by singing and cheering. Then about twenty soldiers met the demonstrators at construction site and tried to block the march forward. The soldiers surrounded the demonstrators who continued to loudly chant and tried to push through the line of the Israeli Occupation Forces. The demonstrators then sat down together and a member of the local Popular Committee whose land is being confiscated by Israel spoke … Continue reading
