Army Jeeps Enter Beit Ommar Firing Tear Gas

12 January 2011

On January 9th, 2010, at about 4pm, three Israeli army jeeps entered the Palestinian village of Beit Ommar from the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur. For the last several weeks, Israeli Forces have periodically raided the village at different times of the day. The reasons behind these incursions are unclear, as the soldiers make no arrests and seem to have no obvious purpose other than to harass residents of Beit Ommar.

During this particular incident, the jeeps drove through an area of the village called Al-Daher. The soldiers shot many tear gas canisters towards several houses and at nearby greenhouses that are used to grow cucumbers. Residents in the area suffered from the effects of the gas. After firing the gas canisters, the soldiers left the village.
