Beit Ommar Demonstrates in Solidarity with Norway


30 July 2011: The popular committee of Beit Ommar called for a demonstration against terrorism in solidarity with the people of Norway. Palestinians – accompanied by international and Israeli activists – marched to the illegal Karmei Tsur settlement, which has confiscated land from several surrounding Palestinian villages.

The demonstrators, carrying balloons, were met by Israeli soldiers wielding automatic weapons. Several Palestinians gave speeches denouncing the terrorist attacks in Norway and the constant exposure to terrorism that Palestinians are faced with living under occupation.

Settlers invade Beit Ommar and Surif on Friday Morning

On the 29th of July, 2011 a large group of settlers was observed passing through the land of Beit Ommar and Surif. The group, which consisted of 40 settlers, 2 of whom were armed, and 4 soldiers, walked through farmland in Beit Ommar and crossed through the town of Surif.

They were observed by a group of residents from the towns as well as two internationals. Members of the group harassed residents as they passed through Surif, and briefly sat down near the entrance of a Palestinian house. They were seen carrying maps and taking pictures of the land and Palestinian homes.

Demonstrators Assaulted in Beit Ommar, 2 Arrested

Demonstrators were assaulted in Beit Ommar today, as Israeli military forces attacked the village’s demonstration against the recent rapid expansion of building work in the illegal Karmei Tsur settlement.

Fifty demonstrators, consisting of local Palestinians, Israelis, and international solidarity activists marched from the village and attempted to protest at the nearby settlement fence. The protest was met by dozens of Israeli soldiers who prevented the Palestinians from marching across their own land. The soldiers proceeded to push numerous demonstrators to the ground. A PSP activist who was arrested during a demonstration organized by the July 8th Welcome to Palestine initiative was released on bail Tuesday, after spending a week in immigrant detention refusing to be deported. While his deportation case may be re-opened, for now Chuck has been released on a $1,300 bond.

Budrus Demonstration Concludes Palestine Popular Resistance Conference

At least 2 were injured and hundreds suffered tear gas inhalation following the conclusion of the Palestine Popular Resistance Conference in the village of Budrus, in the northern West Bank. The conference brought together over a thousand Palestinians along with international and Israeli supporters over three days to discuss the state of the popular resistance in Palestine, concluding with a large protest against the Annexation Barrier in Budrus.


Large crowds listened to speakers and attended workshops in the villages of Beit Ommar, Ni’lin, and Budrus. Palestinians debated the merits of the resistance and asked questions of political leaders in open forums. Workshops were given on topics ranging from the growing … Continue reading

The popular committees, along with Palestinian civil society groups and organizations, have organized a planning conference from July 16-18 to be held in three sponsoring villages: Beit Ommar, Nil’in, and Budros.

The conference begins on Saturday at 10 am in Beit Ommar, and will last until Monday afternoon.

International organizations, dignitaries and others in solidarity with the Palestinian people are invited to join us for a new kind of conferences, one where women and men, farmers, students, shop owners, laborers and professionals from across the West Bank join with veteran Palestinian activists and academics to educate and inspire each other, working towards a unified, popular non-violent strategy to resist the occupation.

2 Internationals, 3 Israelis Beaten and Arrested in Beit Ommar

Two internationals and three Israelis were arrested and beaten in Beit Ommar today, when fifty demonstrators from the Palestine Solidarity Project (PSP), the Welcome to Palestine campaign, and residents of Beit Ommar convened at the secondary fence around Karmei Tsur settlement to protest the annexation of Beit Ommar land.

Thirty of these international solidarity activists were part of hundreds of internationals who attempted to enter Ben Gurion airport on July 8, declaring that they wished to visit Palestine. Only this small group succeeded in entering Palestine.

Kites Soar Over Karmei Tsur Settlement

On Saturday, July 9, about 70 children ages 8-14 from the Center for Freedom and Justice’s annual summer camp flew kites on a hill across from the Karmei Tsur settlement. The kites featured Palestinian flags and children flew them over the area for about an hour. Children from the summer camp were joined by about 15 Palestinian and international demonstrators. A group of about 15 Israeli soldiers watched from a distance, but did not approach the group.

The settlement of Karmei Tsur is surrounded by a secondary fence, which takes even more land from Beit Ommar residents, for whom farming is a major source of income…. Continue reading

Resistance to the Occupation continues in Ni’lin and Shuqba

10 July 2011

On Friday July 8, residents from the village of Ni’lin demonstrated against the Apartheid Wall. The group included around 15 Palestinians, 2 Israelis and 10 internationals. Holding signs and chanting, the group marched to the Wall and demonstrated for around an hour against the theft of their land. The protest was met by teargas and stun grenades fired by Israeli soldiers from the guard tower that overlooks the village. At one point a large fire broke out as a result of the tear gas canisters, which threatened nearby olive trees. The fire was successfully put out by residents and internationals.
