Palestinian Protester Murdered By Israeli Forces Near Ramallah

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Medics say a Palestinian protester died Friday during surgery after being shot during clashes with the Israeli army near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Talat Ramia, 25, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and five others were injured, medics at the Palestine Medical Complex said. Ramia died during surgery, they said.

Israeli forces were firing tear gas and both live and rubber bullets at protesters gathering near the Qalandia checkpoint after hearing rumors of a raid on a holy site in Jerusalem.

An Israeli army spokesman said the incident was under investigation.

Hebron Demonstration to Open Shuhada Street Violently Repressed

On Friday, February 24, 2012, Palestinian activists in Hebron (or Al Khalil in Arabic) organized a protest to open Shuhada Street which is a main street in the old city of Hebron that has been closed by Israeli soldiers to Palestinians. Hundreds of Israeli settlers now illegally live off of Shuhada street and their movement is not impeded by Israeli Forces. Hundreds of people attended the demonstrations from Hebron, from Palestinian towns and cities including Beit Ommar, some Palestinians from 48, Israelis, as well as internationals. Israeli Soldiers Arrest Three Beit Ommar Youth

On Tuesday February 21, 2012, Israeli Forces raided the Palestinian village of Beit Ommar and raided several homes, arresting three youth between the ages of 14 and 17. According to the Popular Committee in Beit Ommar, the occupation forces arrested three people; Mohammad Ahmed Khalil Abu Hashem (14 years old) Mohab Samir Mehanna (16 years old), and Mohammed Jamil Saadi (17 years old). The boys were taken to the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmei Tsur which is built on land belonging to Beit Ommar residents. Israeli Forces Destroy Hundreds of Olive Trees and Two Wells in Surif

In the early hours on February 23, 2012, a combined group of Israeli settlers and soldiers came to Surif, a Palestinian village near the Separation Barrier in the southern West Bank, and cut down 700 trees and destroyed two water wells. Surif, a large community of 17,000 Palestinian residents, routinely faces large scale acts of destruction and harassment from Israeli settlers and soldiers. In this attack, Israeli Forces entered the area between the hours of 2am and 6am and cut down 400 olive trees and 300 apricot trees belonging to Ishaq Abdel Fatah Al Qadi.
