Occupation Forces Demolish Parts of a House During Night Raid
When the occupation forces arrived, they fired live ammunition, sound grenades and tear gas at the house of Waheed and the neighborhood. The tear gas got into the surrounding houses where children were trying to sleep.
Waheed’s brother, Falah, heard the shooting and he rushed to the location. He tried to negotiate with the soldiers and suggested that his brother could come to the military base in Gush Eztion the next day but the brigade commander rejected his proposal. Instead the soldiers kicked Falah and beat him with their guns. Two other brothers of Waheed were also beaten by the soldiers.
The soldiers ordered Waheed to get out of the house but he refused. The occupation force then responded by demolishing a part of his family home. An imam in Beit Ommar called upon the people from the minaret to go to Waheed’s house to prevent the demolishing. People of Beit Ommar came in large numbers to support the family and confront the soldiers. Several Palestinians were injured and they were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
At 3.30 a.m. Waheed went out of his house and subsequently was arrested. The soldiers beat him and stripped him of his clothes. He was taken away wearing nothing but underwear.
During the night raid the soldiers used a special missile, possibly MATADOR, at Waheed’s home.
During the 1st intifada Waheed was imprisoned for twelve years and his family home was completely demolished by Israeli occupation forces. He was also arrested for three years during the 2nd intifada. His brothers and nephews have all been arrested multiple times. Despite his young age his son, Hamza (23), has already been imprisoned for a total of two and a half years.
The arrests of activist’s family members are a well known strategy for oppressing the Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation.
