Attacks by Settlers

In Jerusalem, Ma’an news reported that an ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman passed by a Palestinian woman and all of a sudden hit her in the face. Other women, who were on the street joined her and together they started to beat up the woman with force. These kind of violent attacks have been on the rise. In Jerusalem only a few months ago a young Palestinian man was beaten badly by a large group of Jewish settlers. The man is apparently still in hospital none of the Jewish settlers who attacked the young man have been charged or apprehended by Israeli Police.

There is a growing unrest

There is growing unrest in the west bank as tensions rise with the the deteriorating situation with the hunger strikers. In the past three days there has been large protest all across the west bank and the violent actions of the Israeli soldiers seems to be increasing. In Bethlehem a 13-year-old boy was seriously injured during a protests after being shot with live ammunition, and underwent surgery in Beit Jala hospital. Another teenager, Odai Sirkhan, 16, was shot in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet in Bethlehem and taken to Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, where he is said to be in a critical condition. The Death of Arafat Jaradat Draws Thousands to the Street

Today many Palestinians are sad because they are mourning the loss of Arafat Jaradat. The funeral of the young man who died while in Israeli custody was held in the town of Sier in the Hebron district. Around six thousand people gathered in the small town for the funeral procession of the young man. The family brought his body to the cemetery and many activists where asked to speak about Arafats life, they spoke about the importance of Palestinian unity and resistance to the occupation. Palestinian Prisoner Arafat Jaradat

February 24th 2013

Palestinian Prisoner Arafat Jaradat from the town of Seir, in Hebron in the southern West Bank died Saturday evening in Megiddo prison. The prisoner Jaradat suffered a severe heart attack which led to his death. Jaradat died after 6 days of his arrest. Media sources says the ambulances rushed to the prison and tried to save his life but he had already died of a heart attack before they arrived. The Israeli prison administration said that the deceased prisoner is not among the prisoners on hunger strike. Weekly Demonstration in Beit Ommar

Today PSP organized a protest in the village of Beit Ommar. The protest is a weekly demonstration that PSP and the popular committee has been organizing for years. The protestors gathered outside of Karme Tzure settlement to demonstrate that they have the right to walk on their farmland, which was seized by Israel and now considered area C and is protected for the settlers by the Israeli Occupation Forces. Around 30 people gathered in front of the settlement and where confronted by around twenty soldiers almost out numbering the amount of protestors. Demonstration to Open Shuhada Street

Today in Hebron city there was a protest at Shuhada Street to be reopened for Palestinians. The street has been seized by Israeli Occupation Forces and is considered a closed military zone for more than eight-teen years, restricting the passage of Palestinian citizen. Despite the fact that the road has been closed to Palestinians for so long today more than 400 Palestinians accompanied by foreign activists gathered to demonstrate their right to pass through the road which leads to Ibrahim’s mosque. On February 18th,
Palestinian and international activists gathered from all over the West Bank in Hebron city to protest the administrative detention of young men and even children imprisoned without trial. The protest was in solidarity with the prisoners on hunger strike and particularly to recognize the hunger strike of Samar Issawi. Samar Issawi has been on hunger strike for more than 200 days, which may be one of the longest in history. Protests like this one, in solidarity with the hunger strikers have been erupting all across Palestine and resulting in violent clashes between protestors and Israeli Occupation Forces. PSP Statement Regarding Samer Issawi and Palestinian Prisoners

For years, we have been trying to raise the world’s awareness about the barbaric and unjust fate of the Palestinian political prisoners. The latter, that Israel attempts to destroy by means of torture and imprisonment under horrible conditions, have been resisting for decades. Not less than 800,000 Palestinians, men, women and children, went through the Israeli jails since the occupation in June 1967. With regard to the size of the Palestinian population, that would mean the equivalent of 15 million French or British citizens being jailed during the same period!

Israeli Forces Again Attack Beit Ommar Funeral

A 24 year old woman was being laid to rest January 24th in the Beit Ommar cemetery near the entrance to the village. The Israeli military immediately attacked the procession, as is more and more common in Beit Ommar. Video take by activists with PSP and Youth Power Palestine is below:
