Three Palestinians Killed By Israeli Forces in Yatta
From Ma’an News Agency:
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot and killed three Palestinians late Tuesday near Hebron in the occupied West Bank, Israeli security officials said.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma’an that the Palestinians were in a car near Hebron and fired on security officers, who responded by shooting and killing the occupants.
Rosenfeld said explosive devices were found in the vehicle. He said a security operation was ongoing in the Hebron area.
The Palestinians “were members of a Salafi Jihad terrorist cell that was planning an attack in the coming days. At the moment operations are continuing in that area,” Rosenfeld said.
Locals identified the killed Palestinians as Moussa Mohammad Moussa Makhamra, Mahmoud Khalid al-Najjar, and Mohammad Fouad Jamil Nairoukh.
In a statement, the Israeli army said they also planned to target the Palestinian Authority.
“Investigations indicate that the members of the network were planning different terror attacks against Israeli targets and against the Palestinian Authority,” the statement said.
“Over the past few months the members of the terrorist network acted to organize an expanded terror infrastructure which included preparing and manufacturing explosives, purchasing weapons and arranging an apartment for hiding.”
The military said the shootings occurred shortly after soldiers arrested members of the “terrorist network” elsewhere in the West Bank.
“This terrorist network is just a sample of those who try to harm Israeli civilians and undermine the existing security stability,” Peter Lerner, an army spokesman, said in the statement.
“Operational access combined with quality intelligence gives us the upper hand on these evildoers and their beastly intentions. It is our obligation to prevent them from fulfilling their detestable fantasies.”
Rosenfeld and the Israeli army initially reported that two Palestinians died.
