On Wednesday, September 17, more than 50 Israeli supporters of Palestinian Independence joined the residents of Ni’lin in another demonstration against the construction of the Annexation Barrier. In addition to the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall, a constant presence at Anti-Barrier demonstrations, members of the ultra-orthodox Naturei Karta sect of Judaism and other Israeli peace activists joined Palestinians in the center of town. This Friday residents of Ni’lin were joined by dozens of supporters, including leaders from the Anti-Wall movements in Budrus, Al-Ma’asara and Bi’lin, to commemorate the deaths of two young men, Ahmed Mousa, 10, and Yousef Amira, 18, during their own struggle against the Annexation Barrier. Left-wing organizations have called for a military investigation into the critical injury of a mentally ill Palestinian by rubber-coated steel bullets fired at him in the West Bank village of Naalin on Monday.

The organizations appealed to Judge Advocate General Avihai Mandelblit and Attorney General Menachem Mazuz and urged them to probe the matter.

Thursday, August 28, the demonstration in Ni’lin began ‘unofficially’ hours before the appointed time, when soldiers took up posts around the edges of the village mid-morning. Not content with ‘simply’ firing tear gas canisters at pockets of youth with stones, by noon Israeli Occupation Forces were firing enormous amounts of tear gas into the center of town, not even taking care to see where they were firing, they rained down tear gas on young girls age 6-16 walking home from school. From Anarchists Against the Wall

A private security guard, hired by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, opened fire on unarmed Palestinian, Israeli and international demonstrators in Ni’ilin. No one was hit by the bullets, but a number of demonstrators were hit by bits of stones that ricocheted as a result of the bullets’ impact.

This Friday, more than 100 residents of Ni’lin along with their Israeli and international supporters held Friday’s midday prayer on the land near the site of the Annexation Barrier construction and then attempted to march towards the site of the construction. Though bulldozers do not work on construction on Fridays, participants wanted to march to the razor-wire fence that had been erected on Ni’lin land and attempt to dismantle it. Shortly after 11:00am Thursday, August 7, a group of approximately 50 Palestinian, international, and Israeli activists approached the worksite of the Annexation Barrier outside of Ni’lin. The area contained approximately 20 members of the Israeli Occupation Forces and a private security officer. Initially, soldiers responded to the activists’ presence with a minimal use of force, and Palestinian activists, along with Israeli members of Anarchists Against the Wall and internationals were able to closely approach one of the bulldozers. Yousef Ahmed Amira, 19, who was shot in the head by two plastic-coated steel bullets by the Israeli Occupation Forces after the funeral of 10 year old Ahmed Mousa in Ni’lin on July 30, died of his wounds on August 4th. Later that day, hundreds of men from Ni’lin and surrounding villages went to meet his body at a Ramallah hospital. When entering Ramallah, the procession was stopped by Palestinian Authority police who arrested 6 men for carrying Hamas flags.
