Farmers in Palestine Deeply Affected by Massive Snow Storm

While the historical snow storm that hit the central parts of Palestine as well as Syria and Jordan made for some epic snowmen, the storm, which we know caused a humanitarian crisis for Syrian refugees throughout the area as well as a catastrophe for Gazans left in flooded refugee camps without electricity or potable water, has also created an economic crisis for farmers in the Southern West Bank. Over 1 meter (3 feet) of snow fell in higher elevations, including Halhoul and Beit Ommar. These areas, home to fruit trees more fragile than the olive trees of their northern compatriots, were devastated by the storm. Direct aiming of tear gas canisters continues to put lives at risk, despite military’s denials

Last Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013, Muhmmad ‘Awad (Abu Ahmad), a B’Tselem volunteer videographer, and a resident of Beit Ummar, documented clashes between Palestinian youth and soldiers near the entrance to the town. The first video he shot depicts the soldiers standing by a jeep, and a stone landing near them. An officer is then seen firing several tear gas canisters from a “Ringo” type launcher, to the area of the stone throwers, in a position behind and to the right of the cameraman. Late at night on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, Israeli Forces arrested two brothers on the main street adjacent to the village of Beit Ommar in the Hebron district of the southern West Bank. The brothers, Bader, age 17, and Mohammed age 13, Ali Abu Maria are residents of the village. Israeli Forces in jeeps entered an area near the entrance of the village off of Route 60, the main Jerusalem-Hebron road and arrested the younger brother.

Soldiers then arrested Bader when he attempted to intervene to protest the detention of his younger brother. When the boys’ family and concerned village residents arrived try to stop the arrest, the Israeli Forces threw tear gas and sound bombs. The … Continue reading

On Wednesday, August 7th, Beit Ommar was stormed at 2:00 am by around 70 IOF soldiers in three groups.
Beit Ommar residents reported tear gas, rubber bullets, and sound grenades were used in at least three location. In one instance, Beit Ommar residents were attacked with live ammunition.

The IOF arrested two minors: Mustafa Mohammad Awad, 16, and Ramzi Abdul-Hamid Al-‘Allamy, 15. Ramzi Al-’Allamy was also savagely beaten during the raid. For Ramzi Al-’Allamy, the arrest comes after only being free from prison for a few months.

There were five injuries from rubber bullets, two of them moderate, three mild. Thankfully, no one was hit by the live fire.

“We woke up to banging on the front door of our house accompanied by people shouting in Hebrew: ‘open the door, it’s the IDF,” recalls ‘Alia, the mother of seven-year-old Muhsen. “My husband answered the door and three Israeli soldiers stormed the house. One of the soldiers asked my husband, in mixed Arabic and Hebrew, for our son Muhsen, our youngest child.”

Breaking News: Activist Ahmed Abu Hashem and Son Mohammed Brutally Beaten and Arrested by Israeli Forces

Just yesterday, at approximately 1pm Palestine time, Ahmed’s daughter-in-law and niece of PSP Co-founder, Yasmin Abu Maria, gave birth to a baby girl. Mass Invasion and Arrest Raid on Beit Ommar

On the 20th of June 2013 beginning around 3am, the Israeli occupation forces stormed Beit Ommar north of Hebron using three APC’s and more than 100 soldiers in a sustained invasion of the town. The forces were accompanied by dogs and intelligence officers who broke down doors of the homes they raided over the next four hours.

First, the IOF prevented residents from making their way to the mosque for morning prayers and then started to invade and ransack houses throughout the town. Israeli Occupation Forces Prevent Farmers from Selling Their Produce in Beit Ommar

Israeli military forces have once again prevented residents and authorities in Beit Ommar from opening their main market, near the entrance to the village. Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber-coated bullets at farmers and city councilmen attempting to reopen the market this week. At the same time, Israeli forces destroyed fruit stands along Route 60 belonging to Beit Ommar farmers who were forced to sell their produce there.

Israeli Forces Attack Farmers in Beit Ommar

On the 18th of June 2013, the Israeli occupation forces attacked the farmers who own the land near Kami Tzur settlement south of Beit Ommar while they were working in their land, trying to deny these farmers from harvesting their fruit.

The Israeli occupation force attacked the farmer Ahmad Abu Hashem, 46, and his children and an elderly woman Aziza Abu Maria, 60, because they were in their land near the settlement. Early Morning Arrest in Beit Ommar

On the 6th of June 2013 a group of Israeli soldiers stormed Beit Ommar in undercover dressed in civilian clothing driving 2 Palestinian cars and arrested Mahmoud Khaled Nayef (age 20). They arrived at the house of Khalid Nayef (age 47) just after 3 in the morning. They destroyed the door and entered the house waking up the entire family. They continued into the house and beat Khalid’s wife and daughters causing large amounts of damage to the house. The commander explained that they had come undercover purposely as to not allow Mahmoud any warning. (the last time they came to arrest him he was able to escape the house in advance)
