At noon on 5 August between the villages of Mfaggara and Jinba located in the South Hebron Hills an Israeli military bulldozer and a hummer with five soldiers created three earth mounds, blocking the road. In addition, the military damaged the road by digging it up to create the earth mounds.

The entire village of Kallet Adbea is now closed between the two of the earth mounds. In addition, the mounds affect villages south of Kallet Adbea. Picnic in Susiya Disrupted By Israeli Soldiers, 1 Arrested

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, Members of Ta’ayush Movement, along with international supporters, continued their creative protest against a newly-constructed one-room outpost outside the illegal Israeli settlement of Susiya, which is built just above the Palestinian community of Susiya. This week, activists held a picnic next to the outpost, bringing a blanket, watermelon, and other summer foods, informing the Israeli military when they arrived that it was not a demonstration, but merely an outing.

In the early evening of Friday, 3 July, Israeli police detained a
Palestinian from the village of Tuba, located in the South Hebron hills.

“We’ll Build Our Own Outpost”

Saturday, residents of Susiya, a small community in the South Hebron Hills, were joined by members of Combatants for Peace and Ta’ayush, along with other international and Israeli activists, in an attempt to build their own structure next to a newly-constructed building on their privately owned land which was placed there by a group of right-wing ideological settlers from the Susiya settlement. More than 200 Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals marched from Susiya, carrying metal poles and material in the colors of the Palestinian flag.

Israeli soldiers break Hebron resident’s arm, enter two shops

On Monday, the 4th of May, a Hebron resident’s arm was broken by two soldiers in the old city. 49-year-old Mohammad Hashem Borqan was on his way to pray at the Ibrahimi Mosque at around 5:30am. As he went through the checkpoint at the entrance to the mosque, two soldiers started beating and kicking him. Mohammad fell to the ground, breaking his arm. After the beating the soldiers ordered him to leave the area, and he was forced to take himself to the hospital.

Hebron District, PSP Commemorate Prisoner’s Day

On the 20 of April, around 500 Palestinian residents gathered at the Red Cross headquarters in Hebron to mark Prisoner’s Day. Prisoner’s Day in Palestine remembers all former and current political prisoners in Israeli jails. Prisoner’s day annually falls on the 17th of April, and demonstrations are held all over the West Bank and Gaza Many of the participants in the Hebron event carried pictures of loved ones in Israeli prisons.

Settlers Destroy Palestinian Water Tanks as Soldiers Look On

14 April, 2009 Hebron. A little after 4pm, four or five masked settlers youth climbed onto the roof of the Awaywi family home and punctured six large metal water tanks in open sight of a manned Israeli military tower.

Basma Awaywi, the mother of the family, was on the outside passage way of the house when she saw the masked settlers on the roof, she was frightened and went into the house.

At 11:30 am, Sunday, 8 March, Israeli police detained 19 Palestinians who were trying to access their land near the village of Um al-Khayr. The police also arrested two Christian Peacemaker Teams members (CPTers) and charged them with obstruction and trespass, despite them being invited to the land by the Palestinian landowners.

Palestinians from the village observed workers using road building
equipment on Palestinian owned land near the Israeli settlement of Karmel – the settlement sits adjacent to Um al-Kheir. When the Palestinians and CPTers approached the work area, an Israeli settlement security guard began to shout, demanding they leave. Palestinians and their international supporters held a vigil marking the 15th anniversary of the massacre of 33 Palestinians by an Israeli settler in the West Bank city of Hebron on Thursday.

The demonstration took place near the fence surrounding the present day settlement of Kiryat Arba. The families of the victims of the massacre were present, along with officials from the Palestinian People’s Party and foreign solidarity activists.

The demonstrators carried 33 banners with the names of the victims and lit 33 candles and carried torches.

In response to the vigil, Israeli soldiers declared the area a closed military zone, shutting down roads leading to the site of the demonstration, in the Wadi Al-Ihsein neighborhood of Hebron.

Israeli Military Invasions Intensify in Southern West Bank

In the early hours on February 24th, Israeli Forces invaded the villages of Sa’ir and Idhna, in the Hebron district of the southern West Bank, and arrested four men. More than ten jeeps entered Idhna at approximately 12:30am. Around 40 soldiers surrounded the house of Hatem Mahmoud Al-Kharuf, and ordered all the family members outside. They then proceeded to search the house, turning everything upside down and smashing a bedroom wardrobe. A shared Taxi (service) owned by Hatem’s brother that was parked outside was also ransacked, with the soldiers tearing off large pieces of the interior and inexplicably breaking open the airbags.
