Palestine Solidarity Project coordinator Mohammed “Hamude” Abu Maria is currently being held in Ofer Prison. Saturday morning, December 20, prisoners were bombarded with tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets, attacked with dogs and eventually Israeli armored police after they began resisting the brutal and degrading treatment of prisoners by prison guards.
Mohammed reported to PSP that the confrontation started after guards handcuffed several prisoners and brought dogs into the tents where hundreds of Palestinians are held during their daily “search” of property. Professor Richard Falk, a United Nations envoy who once sparked controversy by comparing Israelis to Nazis, has been barred entry to Israel and was put on a plane bound out of the country early on Monday.
In March, the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council appointed Falk, a Jewish American and professor emeritus at Princeton University, to a six-year term monitoring the human rights situation as UN Special Rapporteur in the Palestinian territories.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said in September that it would not allow Falk to enter the country, after the BBC quoted Falk as defending statements he made last year equating Israel’s treatment of Palestinians with Nazi treatment of Jews during the Holocaust. A Palestinian and four internationals were taken into Israeli police custody at a protest in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to a statement.
The five were demonstrating against the demolition of a Palestinian family’s home in Sheikh Jarrah, an East Jerusalem neighborhood, where the house was demolished by Israeli forces on 9 November. The home, which belonged to the Al-Kurd family, was built on private Palestinian property, the statement claimed.
Later on Wednesday afternoon, all five protestors were released without charges. Aside from the one Palestinian seized by Israeli police forces, two of the jailed protestors are from Denmark, one is British and another is from Sweden. Palestine Solidarity Project is honored to work with her and support her and the other Israeli youth who refuse to serve in the Israeli Occupation Forces. These young men and women, who have made a huge commitment to Palestinian liberation by not supporting their government’s policies and participating in the solidarity movement inside the Occupied Palestinian Territories, are true solidarity activists.

In the last 3 weeks several prominent activists from Ni’lin and Al-Ma’asara, the sites of ongoing Anti-Wall demonstrations, have been arrested. On Sunday, July 20, After 2 weeks of imprisonment and 2 bail hearings the two members of the South Betlehem Popular Committee who were arrested on July 4 were released when supporters from the Betlehem community, Israeli anarchists, and PSP raised 12,000 shekels bail. Salah Khawaja, a medic and also member of the Popular Committee of Ni’lin, who was brutally assaulted and arrested on July 13, was released on bail after 9 days in prison. He intends to sue the Israeli military for his false arrest and abuse while in their custody.

Today, B’Tselem is publishing a video clip documenting a soldier firing a rubber coated steel bullet, from extremely close range, at a cuffed and blindfolded Palestinian detainee. The shooting took place in the presence of a lieutenant colonel, who was holing the Palestinian’s arm when the shot was fired.
The incident took place on 7 July, in Nil’in, a village in the West Bank. On Saturday, May 10, thousands of people marched throughout the streets of London, from the river Thames to Trafalgar Square in support of the Palestinian people and a call for the immediate end to the siege on Gaza. The participants marched past the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street, carrying signs and Palestinian flags. In the midst of the march, a contingent of participants carried a banner in support of PSP co-founder Mousa Abu Maria and called for the end of administrative detention, a policy used by the Israeli military to imprison Palestinians without charge or trial.

Friday, January 4, 2008. Israeli soldiers opened fire on Palestinians on their way to Friday prayer seriously injuring Nablus resident Ahmad Mohammad Abu Hantash in the head. The incident happened at noon as worshipers were heading to Al Shuhada Mosque in the western part of Nablus. As worshipers were entering the mosque an Israeli armored vehicle opened fire hitting Mr. Abu Hantash in the back of his head with three rubber-coated metal bullets causing extensive damage to his brain and neck. He is currently undergoing surgery in Nablus Specialty Hospital located near the mosque in an effort to save his life. A group of Israelis, including activists from Anarchists Against Walls, joined by internationals from PSP, took part in a critical mass demonstration in Tel Aviv last night, December 27, 2007. Bicyclists rallied at Rabin Square in Central Tel Aviv and took to the streets. Between forty and fifty cyclists rode through the streets bringing traffic in this busy center to a near standstill. Demonstrators passed out fliers and chanted slogans protesting the restriction of free movement of Palestinians in the West Bank and the embargo on Gaza. The demonstration, which lasted around an hour, ended with no injuries or arrests.
