Beit Ommar: a Palestinian Town Constantly Fighting the Israeli Occupation

Beit Ommar is a small town (population 18,000) located in the Hebron District of the occupied West Bank, approximately 11kms north of the city of Hebron. Israeli forces occupied the town in 1967, and since then, residents have suffered from the pressures of the occupation. The main road leading into the village has a permanent watchtower guarded by the Israeli military.

Despite the oppressive presence of an occupying army, Beit Ommar villagers have a strong history of popular resistance, with active participation from the area during both the first and second intifadas. Today, Beit Ommar is famous for its regular demonstrations and its ongoing resistance.

The Israeli Settlements: a Nest of Violence and Hate

Since its invasion of the West Bank in 1967, the state of Israel has launched a vast campaign of colonization throughout the territories. According to the last statistics, in 2015, the occupier state has established 196 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Moreover, by adding the 232 settler outposts, this colonization policy has captured 45% of the West Bank area. The expansionist ambition of the settlers has no limit and it follows a systematic master plan, which is orchestrated behind the curtain by the Israel government, which put in place various legal policies to confiscate the land from the Palestinians…. Palestinian Toddler Killed by Israeli Settlers

The killing of a one and a half year old infant, Ali Sa’ed Dawabshe, and the serious injury of his mother Riham and toddler brother Ahmed, after a suspected arson attack by Israeli civilians burned their home, was only a matter of time. This, due to the authorities’ policy to avoid enforcing the law on Israelis who harm Palestinians and their property. This policy creates impunity for hate crimes, and encourages assailants to continue, leading to this morning’s horrific result.

In recent years, Israeli civilians set fire to dozens of Palestinian homes, mosques, businesses, agricultural land and vehicles in the West Bank. The vast majority of these cases … Continue reading

The Story of Khirbet Susiya

The Palestinian village of Khirbet Susiya has existed in the South Hebron Hills at least since the 1830s. Its residents have traditionally earned a living from shepherding and growing olive trees. In 1983, the Israeli settlement of Susiya was established near the village, on Palestinian land that had been declared state land by Israel. In 1986, about 25 families were living in Khirbet Susiya, in caves and structures. That year, the Civil Administration declared the village’s land an “archeological site”; the land was confiscated “for public purposes” and the Israeli military expelled its residents from their homes. Having no other option, the families relocated to other caves in the area and to flimsy wood frame shelters and tents … Continue reading

On the morning 10th of April Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian land in Saffa, a part of Beit Ommar village. Saffa often experience attacks like this. The settlers in question lives in the close by settlement called Bayt Ayin which is a part of the bigger Gush Eztion bloc. The settlers living in Bayt Ayin are known to be very aggressive and violent.

This morning the settlers cut olive trees in the Palestinian fields. They managed to cut dozens of trees. The land owner came to the scene and ended up being beaten by the settlers.

This incident was unfortunately not an isolated one. Both Palestinian land and people are attacked daily by settlers, throughout the West Bank.
