On Thursday, October 28th, 2010, Israeli Forces on foot raided the village of Beit Ommar and arrested two Palestinian youth. Two groups of soldiers came into the village from the nearby Israeli settlement of Karmei Tsur at 3am. The soldiers raided two residences on the outskirts of the village and arrested two youth, both of whom were blindfolded, handcuffed, and brought back to the settlement. Muhammad Ibrahim Abdul Hamid Abu Maria, age 15, and Muhammad Samir Mhana Abu Maria, age 18, have been identified as those arrested. Both boys are participants in the weekly Saturday demonstrations that are organized against the settlements built on Beit Ommar farmland.

Israeli Forces Arrest Five as Late Night Raids Continue

On Tuesday, October 26th at 3:30am, Israeli Forces invaded the village of Beit Ommar and arrested five Palestinian youth after ransacking several of their homes.

Thirteen jeeps with a total of about 70 soldiers raided two areas of the village. Residents reported seeing sound bombs and tear gas used by the army. The arrested youth are identified as:

Hassan Yousef Zal Alkam, age 20
Qadum Yousef Zal Alkam, age 19
Waheed Yousef Sabarnah, age 19
Hamza Shidah Younis Sarbarnah, age 16
Younis Ibrahim Sabri Awwad, age 16

Beit Ommar Demonstrators Steadfast Despite Israeli Raids, Arrests

On Saturday, October 23rd, around 50 Palestinian villagers from Beit Ommar, supported by eight Israeli and international solidarity activists, rallied against the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur despite the entire village being declared a closed military zone by Israeli Forces. Additionally, earlier in the morning at 3:30am, two members of the National Committee, which plans the demonstration every week, had their homes raided by Israeli soldiers who warned them that they would be arrested if they continued to protest against the occupation. During the demonstration, a Palestinian youth was arrested by undercover Israeli Forces and a driver for a press agency was also detained.

PSP Committee Member Arrested While Photographing Settlement Expansion

Mohammad was released at 5:00pm the same day without charge after being questioned by police at the Kiryat Arba Settlement in Hebron.

On Wednesday, October 13th, Israeli Forces arrested Mohammad Ayyad Awad, from Beit Ommar, as he and a member of the press were documenting bulldozers working on expanding the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur. The press photographer was briefly detained and then released, but Mohammad was taken into custody and brought to the police station at Kiryat Arba Settlement.

Eyad had court on Thursday, October 14th, at Ofer prison where he was placed in administrative detention for four months. He is currently being held without charge or trial due to the presence of a secret file from the Israeli military that neither Eyad or his lawyer have access to.

On Monday, October 11th, 2010, Israeli Forces raided Beit Ommar and arrested Eyad Jamil Al Alami, a member of the Palestine Solidarity Project and the National Committee Against the Wall and Settlements. At 3am, seven jeeps of Israeli soldiers closed off the main street of Beit Ommar and took Eyad from his house. Eyad is a 25-year-old student at the Polytechnic University in Hebron. Four Palestinians, Four Solidarity Activists Arrested in Beit Ommar Demonstration

For immediate release:

Beit Ommar, Southern West Bank, 1:30pm: four Palestinians, three internationals and one Israeli solidarity activist were arrested by Israeli Forces during a Palestinian demonstration against Karmei Tsur, an illegal Israeli settlement built on Beit Ommar land.

The arrested Israeli solidarity activist was injured after Israeli Forces held her down and deployed pepper spray directly to her eyes.

Several Israeli soldiers disguised as Palestinians came behind the demonstrators and arrested three Palestinian youth. An additional Palestinian activist with mental disabilities was arrested during the protest. Sound bombs and tear gas were used by the Israeli military against the demonstrators, and one member of the press had their camera broken by a soldier.

Since the middle of June, over a dozen youth from Beit Ommar under the age of 18 have been arrested, most of whom live near the illegal Israeli settlement, Karmei Tsur. In one instance, a 7 year old boy was also given a summons to present himself to Israeli security in the Etzion settlement, an incident the Israeli military reportedly now says was a “mistake” and that the summons was meant for another, older boy of the same age. This week a 12 year old boy will also be attending a military court hearing after being arrested last month.

Early this morning, Wednesday, June 16, 7 year-old Muhsen Yousef Awwad was handed a summons by Israeli forces ordering him to report to the Etzion settlement police station for interrogation during an arrest campaign throughout the village of Beit Ommar. Two young men were also arrested this morning, bringing the total to six arrests this week of young men from Beit Ommar, most residing near the Karmei Tsur settlement and ranging in age from 15-24.

Israeli Military Snatch Squad Kidnap Beit Ommar Youth, Settlers Attack Residents

At 19.30 today, May 2, an Israeli army snatch squad of 6 soldiers dressed as Palestinians drove into Beit Ommar in a white Ford Transit with Palestinian number plates and took away at least 6 youths aged between 13 and 16. Under cover of darkness the soldiers terrified villagers by throwing numerous stun grenades and firing tear gas into the narrow streets of the town. It is believed that the youths are being detained in Karmei Tsur settlement.

Dozens of masked soldiers raided the West Bank villages of Bil’in and Nil’in Monday morning to post decrees designating the village’s lands closed military zones on Fridays for a period of six months, residents said.

The areas between the wall and built up villages will be declared closed military zones every Friday between 8am and 8pm for six months, the military decrees read.

According to a statement issued by Bil’in’s Popular Committee, the move comes one week after the head of the Israeli Shin Bet threatened to step-up action against the Palestinian popular struggle in the two villages that see weekly protests against the separation wall’s construction.
