Olive Harvest Obstructed by Road Blocks and Checkpoints

Olive harvest is upon us. Many Palestinians, as well as internationals, have been looking forward to this season. All family members, including small children and grandparents, gather to pick olives in the beautiful fields throughout the West bank.

Every autumn PSP participate in the olive harvest in solidarity with Palestinian farmers that experience harassment and attacks from either colonists or the Israeli occupation forces. Presence of internationals are also sometimes helpful in preventing or documenting such harassment. PSP contributes to the olive harvest in area C, close to either the segregation wall or Israeli colonies and the purpose of this work is to support and encourage farmers to continue to cultivate their land. Farmer Arrested for Being a Victim of Israeli Stone Throwers.

On Sunday morning, October 14th, 2012, at 7 a.m. a farmer, Mohammed Abd Alhamid Soleibi, was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces as he was harvesting olives in his fields. His olive trees are located in Area C, in Saffa, close to Bayt Ain an Israeli colony and a part of the Gush Esion block.

Mohammed is one of many Palestinians that have to cultivate their land in fear of colonist attacks because their fields are located close to an Israeli colony. Last year he was harassed by extreme colonists together with the Israeli occupation forces.

Colonists Attacked Palestinian Land

On Monday morning, 15th of October, colonists cut plum trees close to the colony of Efrata. The trees belong to the farmer Abdalla Brigeet and the land area is between Efrata and Migdal Oz north of Beit Ommar. Both these colonies are built on Beit Ommar land.

A total of forty trees were cut this day, approximately one dunam of land. This is the first time Abdalla experience this kind of attacks from colonists.

Palestinian Youth Beaten and Injured by Israeli Soldiers

On Monday 15th of October at 8 p.m. Ashraf Izzet Sabarna (19) walked, along with his sisters, from the village of Beit Ommar in the direction of their family home close to the Jerusalem-Hebron Road. When they passed the Israeli military tower at the entrance of Beit Ommar several soldiers from the Israeli occupation forces started to verbally harass Ashraf’s sisters.

When Ashraf reacted to this and asked the soldiers why they behaved like they did five soldiers attacked him. They kicked and beat him with weapons. Several residents of Beit Ommar were witnesses to the assault. Ashraf was sent to the hospital with a broken foot.

On Monday 15th of October at 3 a.m. Israeli occupation forces came in ten military jeeps and two prisoner vans and raided four family homes in the village of Beit Ommar.

One child and three youths of Beit Ommar were arrested; Ahmed Ali al-Alami (17), Rifat Sadi al-Alami (18), Mutaz Yousef al-Alami (18) and Mohammed Sami Sabarna (22). Ahmed is still in school while the others are students at the university.

Three of them have never been arrested before. For Mohammed this is his second time in prison.

Colonist Activity in Beit Ommar Land Supported by Soldiers

At 10 a.m. Friday, October 12th about 100 colonists, escorted by soldiers from the Israeli occupation forces, walked out of Karmei Tsur. They went in the direction of Jala at the west of Beit Ommar where several Palestinian residents have their olive trees.

Local families were harvesting their olives, but fled when they saw the group of colonists to avoid being victims of settler attacks that are common in this area. Last year a colonist killed a Palestinian boy in Saffa. The colonists were also intimidating to the people of Jala who stayed home instead of going to Beit Ommar, as they usually do on Fridays.

Activist Injured in Demonstration

On Saturday, October 13th, 2012 Palestinian, Israeli and international activists marched to protest in front of the colony Karmei Tzur in a weekly demonstration. Also former hunger striker Tha’er Halahla participated in the protest.

This week the main message was directed against the recent increase in colonist’s harassment of Palestinian farmers cultivating their land. In addition the activists protested against the terrorizing of the village of Beit Ommar conducted by the Israeli occupation forces in night raids, often to arrest children.

The Israeli occupation forces lined up and tried to stop the residents of Beit Ommar, accompanied by Israeli and International activist, from marching into their own land. The demonstrators refused to accept this and kept on walking around the soldiers blocking … Continue reading

Occupation Forces Attack Funeral Procession in Beit Ommar

On 10th of October a funeral procession burying the late Ihmid Abu Maria was attacked by Israeli soldiers. The cemetery in the village has been closed off by the Israelis for years. Large, heavy stones are partly blocking the entrance to the burial site.

As the mourners, this morning, tried to enter the cemetery occupation soldiers attacked the civilians with tear gas, sound grenades and rubber bullets. Some of the people were suffocating from inhaling gas.

These acts by the occupation forces are an attempt to limit the number of people participating in funerals. The Israelis partly succeed in this as people with heart diseases and people suffering from other kind of health problems no longer participate in funerals due … Continue reading

At 3 a.m. October 10th Israeli occupation forces entered the village of Beit Ommar and broke into the house of Jamil Al Alamy. The soldiers searched the family home and gave them an order for the son, Iyad Jamil Al Alamy, to meet at the military base in the colony of Gush Etzion. The son is 23 years old and he is currently studying at the Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron.

The occupation forces also went to the Safa area in Beit Ommar and they gave the same kind of order to Abdelkader Akhalil (50), Waael Abdul Hamid Akhalil (42) and two other men living in the same area. In total, five orders were given out this night.

Man from Beit Ommar Shot on His Way to Work

Israeli occupation forces dressed in civilian clothes were chasing a Palestinian, Saqar Husain al-Alami, and shot him as he tried to go to work in Gilo, an Israeli colony about 4 p.m. on Monday, October 8th.

The 26 year old Palestinian from Beit Ommar was shot by undercover soldiers with live ammunition while he was on his way to work, wounding his left arm says Ahmed Abu Hashem. Al-Alami was taken to Beit Jala Governmental Hospital where his injuries were described as medium severe.
