From the Electronic Intifada, with an interview with PSP Co-founder Bekah Wolf

Three Palestinians were shot and killed today by invading Israeli forces in the village of Beit Ommar near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron during a demonstration in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Seven Palestinians — including the three in Beit Ommar — were killed by Israeli occupation forces and civilians during protests across the West Bank in the last day.

In Beit Ommar, an Israeli sniper killed Hashem Abu Maria with live ammunition in the torso at around 3:15pm today.

Hashem Abu Maria “considered defending children’s rights as his purpose in life, not simply as a job,” says Defence for Children International-Palestine.

Abu Maria worked with … Continue reading

Farmers in Palestine Deeply Affected by Massive Snow Storm

While the historical snow storm that hit the central parts of Palestine as well as Syria and Jordan made for some epic snowmen, the storm, which we know caused a humanitarian crisis for Syrian refugees throughout the area as well as a catastrophe for Gazans left in flooded refugee camps without electricity or potable water, has also created an economic crisis for farmers in the Southern West Bank. Over 1 meter (3 feet) of snow fell in higher elevations, including Halhoul and Beit Ommar. These areas, home to fruit trees more fragile than the olive trees of their northern compatriots, were devastated by the storm. Farmers in Beit Ommar estimate $30,000-$35,0000 in destruction of trees and greenhouses, … Continue reading

Direct aiming of tear gas canisters continues to put lives at risk, despite military’s denials

Last Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013, Muhmmad ‘Awad (Abu Ahmad), a B’Tselem volunteer videographer, and a resident of Beit Ummar, documented clashes between Palestinian youth and soldiers near the entrance to the town. The first video he shot depicts the soldiers standing by a jeep, and a stone landing near them. An officer is then seen firing several tear gas canisters from a “Ringo” type launcher, to the area of the stone throwers, in a position behind and to the right of the cameraman. The soldier then reloads the launcher and when another stone … Continue reading

Give Directly to Palestine! Support Palestinian Grassroots Organizing

Dear friends and supporters of Palestinian organizing,

It has been quite a year for the Center for Freedom and Justice and Palestine Solidarity Project. Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself: I haven’t heard as much from PSP this year, I wonder what’s been going on? The truth is, this year PSP, through its Center, made a determined shift in work and organizing. As op-ed after op-ed, conference after conference on the subject of Palestine have all suggested, Palestine is in need of a grassroots movement and leadership. So PSP decided to do something about it.

For the last year, PSP Palestinian activists have been meeting and organizing with average Palestinians, focusing on youth, women, and former prisoners to develop … Continue reading
