Israeli Soldiers Interrupt Funeral with Tear Gas, Close Entrance to Beit Ommar

On June 17, Israeli soldiers interrupted a funeral by throwing tear gas canisters all over the surrounding region. Eventually the tear gas started a fire near three homes and grape and olive fields. Several Beit Ommar residents and a fire truck with high-pressure hoses
spent over a half and hour working to put out the fire. The soldiers then closed the
entrance to Beit Ommar and did not allow anyone in or out of the village. When one Beit

Israeli Forces Tighten Closures in Beit Ommar, Consider Permanent Blockade

On Sunday, March 27, Israeli police and military forces began stricter enforcement of the recently-declared Closed Military Zone surrounding Beit Ommar. While some villagers are still allowed through, many now are regularly turned away from the roadblocks, effectively imprisoning them within the village. It remains to be seen whether emergency vehicles would be allowed to pass through.

Israeli forces are also considering a more permanent blockade. In current plans, the main gate would be moved further into the village, while cement barriers and chain-link fences would be replaced with permanent walls.
