Friday 26th of April the Popular Committee of Beit Ommar, PSP, members of the Women Committee together with international and Israeli activists organized their weekly demonstration near the settlement of Karmei Tzur.

The demonstrators had prepared one hundred balloons filled with helium. The activists made a parade, chanting slogans and carrying Palestinian flags and the balloons to the scene. Written messages with names of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails were attached to the balloons and released into the air.

Member of PSP and Beit Ommar Popular Committee joined other non-violent demonstrators in the street on Friday April 12th, 2013 in the village of Nabi Saleh, located 20 kilometres North West of Ramallah in the West Bank. The village has organized weekly demonstrations in Nabi Saleh since December of 2009 in order to protest the confiscation of the village’s land and freshwater springs by Israeli settlers.

The demonstrators, which included village residents, international activists and Israeli peace activists, marched to a spring located on Palestinian land that was illegally confiscated by Israeli settlers from the Halamish settlement. Today PSP, the Popular Committee of Beit Ommar and Youth Power of Palestine organised an action in the village of Beit Ommar. PSP and the Popular Committee have been organising weekly demonstrations for years.

The Palestinian, Israeli and International activists gathered outside of Karme Tzure settlement, south of the centre of Beit Ommar. The activists wanted to get as close to the fence to the settlement as possible, to demonstrate their right to walk on their own land.

This Saturday’s weekly demonstration in Beit Ommar, which was once again attended by residents and Israeli activists who have been protesting against Israeli Occupation and Apartheid since 2008, had a special message against the arbitrary and illegal killings of Palestinian civilians. In particular, residents carried signs in support of Lubna Hanash, who was killed by Israeli soldiers who opened fire on her while she stood in front of the Aroub Agricultural College, just down the road from Beit Ommar.

Today, dozens of Palestinians participated in the weekly demonstration organized by the Beit Ommar popular committee and Palestine Solidarity Project near the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmei Tsur. The demonstration was met by Israeli soldiers, who immediately ordered the area a closed military zone. Sound bombs were thrown towards the demonstrators including landowners and their children who were demanding the right to access their land. As the demonstrators proceeded forward, Israeli forces began pushing demonstrators.

Residents of Beit Ommar have held ongoing spontaneous protests against Israel’s attack on Gaza, which many are calling a massacre. Yesterday, one man, Khaled Abu Ayyesh, 20, was arrested yesterday by Israeli forces. Another, Moyasir Abu Maria, was shot from less than 3 meters away with a tear gas canister in his torso. He is in serious condition in a hospital in Hebron. Overnight, Israeli forces invaded Beit Ommar, entering homes and arresting young men. Three men, Yousef Abu Maria, 19, son of Popular Committee member Ahmed Abu Maria, Mohammed Awad, and Yousef Alami were arrested from their homes.

On November 14, a series of coordinated direct actions took place across the West Bank, coordinated by a network of activists throughout the West Bank. Palestinians, along with Israeli and international solidarity activists blocked settler-only roads and checkpoints in Huwarra, Nablus; Ni’lin, Ramallah; Nabi Saleh, Ramallah; Bil’in, Ramallah; Nashash, Betlehem; and Beit Jala, Betlehem. Activists from Beit Ommar and Palestine Solidarity Project joined over 100 other activists at the tunnels checkpoint outside of Beit Jala. On Friday 2th of November Palestinian, Israeli and international activists gathered for a non-violent demonstration in the village of Al Ma’sara, Bethlehem district.

The popular committee of Al Ma’sara had decided to show resistance against the Israeli occupation by blocking the main road used by both colonists and Palestinians.

As the demonstrators marched in the direction of the main road heavily armed soldiers from the Israeli occupation forces blocked their path. The demonstrators brought out their message of resistance by chants, slogans and writing banners in the street in front of the soldiers.

On the anniversary of the signing of the infamous Balfour Declaration, in which Great Britain approved the establishment of a Jewish homeland on Palestinian land – thus beginning the process whereby the Palestinian people, the indigenous inhabitants of the region, have been progressively displaced and removed – inhabitants of Beit Ommar, together with Israeli and international supporters, demonstrated in front of the colony of Karmei Tsur which is built on stolen Beit Ommar lands.

On Saturday, October 13th, 2012 Palestinian, Israeli and international activists marched to protest in front of the colony Karmei Tzur in a weekly demonstration. Also former hunger striker Tha’er Halahla participated in the protest.

This week the main message was directed against the recent increase in colonist’s harassment of Palestinian farmers cultivating their land. In addition the activists protested against the terrorizing of the village of Beit Ommar conducted by the Israeli occupation forces in night raids, often to arrest children.
