14 Feb 2011

Late Sunday night at around 10pm, on February 13, 2011, a large group of about 50 armed Israeli settlers attempted to enter the Palestinian village of Beit Ommar to harass residents. The settlers arrived in the area near the military tower at Beit Ommar’s entrance. Dozens of villagers, including activists with the Palestine Solidarity Project and the National Committee, also came to the area to defend their village. After a stand-off that lasted more than one hour, the Israeli Military ordered the settlers to leave the village.

On January 28th, 2011, another group of settlers from Bat Ayn invaded the area shooting live ammunition. 17-year-old Yousef Ikhlyal was shot in the head while working on his family’s … Continue reading

Israeli Repression of Beit Ommar Demonstrations Continues

On Saturday, January 22, 2011, Israeli Forces used sound bombs and tear gas to repress the weekly unarmed demonstration in the village of Beit Ommar against the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur. The demonstration is organized each week by the National Committee Against the Wall and Settlements and the Palestine Solidarity Project.

Israeli Forces Arrest Four Children South of Beit Ommar

At around 12pm on Wednesday, January 19th 2011, Israeli soldiers stopped four Palestinian children along Route 60, between Beit Ommar and the city of Hebron. The soldiers detained the youth, all of whom appeared under the age of 15, in an isolated area out of sight of the road. By chance, international observers with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) traveling in a car spotted the soldiers leading the children away and followed to advocate for their welfare.

Despite the presence of international human rights activists, at one point the youth were forced to sit on the ground in the stress position … Continue reading

Army Jeeps Enter Beit Ommar Firing Tear Gas

On January 9th, 2010, at about 4pm, three Israeli army jeeps entered the Palestinian village of Beit Ommar from the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur. For the last several weeks, Israeli Forces have periodically raided the village at different times of the day. The reasons behind these incursions are unclear, as the soldiers make no arrests and seem to have no obvious purpose other than to harass residents of Beit Ommar.

During this particular incident, the jeeps drove through an area of the village called Al-Daher. The soldiers shot many tear gas canisters towards several houses and at nearby greenhouses … Continue reading
