Israel has been conducting a massive offensive on the West Bank and Gaza since June 13, when 3 Israeli settlers went missing from the Etzion settlement block overnight. While Israeli media and politicians continue to insist publicly that the offensive is directed at Hamas, who it claims is responsible for the disappearance, the actions of the Israeli Forces suggest a very different agenda.

At 2 pm on June 21, the Israeli military shot a few canisters of tear gas and sound bombs onto the main road several hundred meters past the entrance to Beit Ommar. One man fell to the ground from tear gas inhalation and everyone in the street ran up the road to escape the tear gas. An Israeli military jeep, one APC and about ten soldiers stopped at the entrance to Beit Ommar and a few soldiers walked further down the road. On January 9th, 2010, at about 4pm, three Israeli army jeeps entered the Palestinian village of Beit Ommar from the nearby settlement of Karmei Tsur. For the last several weeks, Israeli Forces have periodically raided the village at different times of the day. The reasons behind these incursions are unclear, as the soldiers make no arrests and seem to have no obvious purpose other than to harass residents of Beit Ommar.
