On Monday, May 2nd, soldiers from the Israeli Defense Forces served demolition orders to two Beit Ommar residents. A car parts shop and stone factory belonging to Sabir Zamil Abu Maria, and a tool shed belonging to Ahmad Hmeid Abu Maria, are both under threat of demolition. According to the orders, the structures are too close to the main road that runs between Bethlehem and Hebron. The two property owners have one week to appeal the decision before demolition crews may legally destroy their buildings under Israeli law.
In a similar event in July of 2010, the IDF razed fruit and vegetable stands, as well as private greenhouses, along route 60, the main North-South highway in the West Bank.
