On July 9 and 10 the Second Popular Resistance Conference was held in two towns, Yatta, center of the South Hebron Hills, and Kufr Qaddoum, in Qalqilya District. The conference was a continuation of the process that was initiated in a simliar conference held the year before in three villages: Beit Ommar, Ni’lin, and Budrus.
This year’s conference focused on the situation of residents in area C, particularly those in the South Hebron Hills such as the community of Susiya which is facing complete demolition, and the new areas of popular resistance, such as Kufr Qaddoum. Arrest, Beit Ommar, Hebron District, settlement expansion »
Demonstrators were assaulted in Beit Ommar today, as Israeli military forces attacked the village’s demonstration against the recent rapid expansion of building work in the illegal Karmei Tsur settlement.
Fifty demonstrators, consisting of local Palestinians, Israelis, and international solidarity activists marched from the village and attempted to protest at the nearby settlement fence. The protest was met by dozens of Israeli soldiers who prevented the Palestinians from marching across their own land. The soldiers proceeded to push numerous demonstrators to the ground. At least 2 were injured and hundreds suffered tear gas inhalation following the conclusion of the Palestine Popular Resistance Conference in the village of Budrus, in the northern West Bank. The conference brought together over a thousand Palestinians along with international and Israeli supporters over three days to discuss the state of the popular resistance in Palestine, concluding with a large protest against the Annexation Barrier in Budrus.
