Beit Ommar: a Palestinian Town Constantly Fighting the Israeli Occupation

Beit Ommar is a small town (population 18,000) located in the Hebron District of the occupied West Bank, approximately 11kms north of the city of Hebron. Israeli forces occupied the town in 1967, and since then, residents have suffered from the pressures of the occupation. The main road leading into the village has a permanent watchtower guarded by the Israeli military.

Despite the oppressive presence of an occupying army, Beit Ommar villagers have a strong history of popular resistance, with active participation from the area during both the first and second intifadas. Today, Beit Ommar is famous for its regular demonstrations and its ongoing resistance.

The Israeli Settlements: a Nest of Violence and Hate

Since its invasion of the West Bank in 1967, the state of Israel has launched a vast campaign of colonization throughout the territories. According to the last statistics, in 2015, the occupier state has established 196 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Moreover, by adding the 232 settler outposts, this colonization policy has captured 45% of the West Bank area. IDF ‘s Favorite Targets of Choice: Children and Young People

In the night of the 15th August to 16th August, the Israeli army has conducted a new operation in the center of Beit Ommar. The incursion of the IDF happened around two o’clock in the morning, during which it burst into several homes, terrorized families and arrested young people – Hmza Abo Hasham (18 years old) and Rashed Adel Salbey, student at the Hebron University (18 years old).

Israel’s Raging Pace of House Demolitions Throughout the West Bank

On August 9, the Palestinian village of Um Al Kheir in the South Hebron Hills have been targeting by the Israeli Civil Administration, which conducted the demolition of five homes. Early in the morning, the IDF invaded and surrounded the village and started the demolishing operation, which included 3 houses donated by the European Union. In total, the operation left 27 Palestinians homeless including 16 children. Moreover, according to witnesses, during the process of razing the homes, the IDF beat up and detained a Palestinian old man.

Palestinian Toddler Killed by Israeli Settlers

The killing of a one and a half year old infant, Ali Sa’ed Dawabshe, and the serious injury of his mother Riham and toddler brother Ahmed, after a suspected arson attack by Israeli civilians burned their home, was only a matter of time. This, due to the authorities’ policy to avoid enforcing the law on Israelis who harm Palestinians and their property. This policy creates impunity for hate crimes, and encourages assailants to continue, leading to this morning’s horrific result.

Israel Orders Palestinian Village to be Demolished After Ramadan

Israeli authorities ordered the demolition of homes in a village south of Hebron to be carried out after Ramadan, Israeli watchdogs said on Wednesday.
Rabbis for Human Rights and B’Tselem said in a statement that pressure from Israeli settlers had led to the decision to carry out demolition orders in the village of Khirbet Susiya after Ramadan, although a high court hearing regarding the case is currently scheduled for August 3.

The Israeli Civil Administration, the Israeli army, and the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) office announced the demolition order to the villagers in a meeting on Sunday.

The location of the land: Near the Main Street (Road 60) and East of Karmi Tzur settlement. (In the middle of both).

Type of the land: Stood land, which means several families own it.

Name of the Project: Enhance Livelihood of Poor Families in Area C.

The Date of project started: On May 20, 215.

Expected length for the Project: 5 Months.

Number of Beneficiaries: More than 15 families.

Stages of work: three Stages.

Stage 1 include Building Retaining walls, install iron columns and putting the fence.

Status of the Village of Al Jab’a

Al Jab’a is a small village situated in central West Bank not far from the 1948 Green Line and is home to approximately 800 Palestinians. As the village is surrounded by multiple illegal Israeli settlements in the vicinity of Gush Etzion, the Palestinians of Al Jab’a must contend with an alarming amount of discrimination. This includes the confiscation of their land by the Israeli government, the destruction of their olive trees at the hands of Jewish settlers and more. Indeed, Israel’s policies towards the residents of Al Jaba are structured in such a way so as to encourage these Palestinians to give up and leave their homes and the surrounding area.

Israeli Settlers Attack and Threaten Palestinians

On Saturday May 23 settlers from Beit Ayen settlement guarded by Israeli Army attacked the Palestinian houses near what so called “Israeli Farm” north of Beit Ummar. The Israeli farm is planted with many fruits including peaches, and the settlers claimed that there are Palestinian kids steal from this farm. So every 15 minutes a gang of settlers come to the farm, and if they see any Palestinians near it they will start shooting on him / her on sight.
